Temporary Anchorage Devices

The purpose of temporary anchorage devices (TADs) is to provide us with an alternative means to treat a full range of orthodontic cases without having to compensate for the unwanted movement of adjacent or surrounding teeth. The use of TADs can help reduce overall treatment time and can also simplify treatment mechanics in order to potentially, in some cases, eliminate the need for jaw surgery.

Orthodontic TADs are just as the name says- temporary. This is different from traditional dental implants, which are more permanent and desired to be retained for years. They are placed and kept for only as long as they are needed. When orthodontic TADs are removed, no permanent defect is left in the jaw bone, and the area where the TAD was heals completely in approximately two weeks.

For the convenience of our patients, orthodontic TADs can be placed in our office by Dr. Balhoff with no additional surgical appointments necessary with another office.
